Attention ladies, big boobs are back — or so says the New York Post.
In an article that ran on the Post website on Aug. 1 (an article that was originally published by U.K. newspaper The Sun), writer Joely Chilcott claims, “Boobs are back in a big way!†The assertion left many who stumbled upon the article to wonder: 1) Where did boobs go in the first place? 2) If I don’t have “big boobs,†what do I do now? And 3) Seriously?
As many Twitter users pointed out, there are a few fundamental issues with this seemingly body-positive article.
Damn, one more way that I’m out of style.
[This whole article is super insulting to all women.] https://t.co/37zr8GgKIm

For years I felt my massive boobs were a fashion faux pas. Thank god for the NY Post

First, suggesting that body parts are trendy is physically and emotionally harmful, as seen by any number of hasty, botched plastic surgery attempts by those who feel pressured by arbitrary beauty standards, or the increase in cases of body dysmorphia inspired by the Instagram age.
Next, sexism. The article perpetuates physical sexism in a way that is entirely brazen. Chilcott writes, “Stand up straight, push out your chest and work that feminine charm, as bountiful boobs are back in style.â€
Chilcott also derides small-chested women as those who “smugly parade around braless in a way that only the small-breasted can,†while simultaneously lavishing compliments on Susan Sarandon’s large breasts. With all this in mind, it’s hard to take Chilcott’s “body positivity†seriously. “We should celebrate our bodies,†she writes, which is a statement with which we wholeheartedly agree. Though we have to say the tactics used here are not the route down which we would have gone.
So, dear reader: “Big boobs are back†(apparently), but the truth is they never left. The boobs you have — big, small, medium-size, nonexistent — are now (and will forevermore) be completely in style.
